Can i deduct union dues on my taxes?
I work for kroger, which is a union, and when I was hired I was given a piece of paper that had my union fees on it. I was told to keep this paper for tax purposes. But now I'm filing my taxes and I have no idea what to do with it.

Can i deduct union dues on my taxes?
You may be able to deduct your union dues if you itemize deductions (Schedule A). Union dues are included in job-related expenses and are not fully deductible as they are subject to the 2% rule.
To enter your Union Dues in TurboTax:
- Continue your return in TurboTax Online. (If your return isn't open, you'll need to sign in and click Take me to my return .)
- Click Tax Tools (lower left of your screen).
- Select Tools .
- In the pop-up window, select Topic Search .
- In the I'm looking for: box, type union dues .
- In the results box, highlight union dues , then click GO .
- You'll land on the Tell us about the occupation you have expenses for page. Enter your occupation , then click Continue .
- Proceed through this section of the interview. Some of these questions may not apply to you, so you'll just answer no and/or click Continue to move through the interview. When you reach the Job-Related Expenses screen, enter your Union Dues and click Continue . (Click the screenshot below to enlarge it for reference).
- TurboTax will take your union dues into account when determining whether you should itemize deductions or take the standard deduction.
Note: If using the TurboTax CD/Download software, you'll use the Find function (instead of "My Account") to search for the topic.
